Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen are currently living apart. Sources tell PEOPLE that Brooke “is basically taking a break from the marriage.”

Charlie Sheen is rumored to be taking a break, maybe permanently, from his hit show Two and a Half Men.

Both Sheen and Mueller have recently spent time in rehab programs. The drama all started on Christmas Day when Sheen attacked his wife.  He was arrested and charged with felony menacing and misdemeanor assault.

Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller need a lot of help. Fortunately they’re getting it. Charlie has entered rehab and Brooke just left rehab.

His rep tells Star Magazine, “As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility. “He will take some time off his series Two and a Half Men.”

Charlie’s people haven’t disclosed exactly which ailment he’s treating at the moment, but Brooke’s recent treatment was for alcohol and crack addiction.

Things just haven’t been the same since Christmas Eve when, according to Brooke’s complaint to the police, Charlie threatened to kill her with a knife. Those acts scored him a felony menacing charge and two misdemeanors.

Will these two live to see old age? Not if they don’t clean up their act!

Actor Charlie Sheen was charged on Monday with felony menacing, misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. It all stems from the ugly Christmas Day incident where he allegedly threatened his wife with a knife and to have her killed. By the time the hearing was over, the “happy” couple left the courtroom hugging.

The menacing charge entails the alleged use of a deadly weapon in a threatening manner.

Sheen could face up to three years behind bars if convicted. He did not enter a plea and another hearing was set for March 15.

Judge James Boyd lifted a “no contact” portion of a restraining order that had barred Sheen from speaking to Mueller or having contact with her. Lawyers for both sides wanted the order lifted.

Mueller, 32, told police in December that Sheen held a knife to her throat and threatened to have her killed when she said she would divorce him and take their children.

Most of us know a volatile couple similar to this. Their bright high-points are counterbalanced by their dark, dangerous lows. How sad. Hopefully we don’t have another O.J. on our hands!

The Two and a Half Men star will go before a judge on Monday and will be charged with felony menacing and misdemeanor assault, according to TMZ.

When he was arrested Christmas day in Aspen, Colorado, Sheen was charged with second degree assault and felony menacing.

It’s been a crazy last few weeks for the stars of the NBC series Two And A Half Men.  It all started on Christmas Day, when Charlie Sheen physically attacked his wife, Brooke Mueller.  Sheen was arrested and charged with felony second-degree assault, felony menacing and criminal mischief.  A Colorado judge placed a restraining order against the couple to minimize the possibility of any further violence.

Then, last Friday security descended onto the set of Two And A Half Men after star Jon Cryer was allegedly threatened by his ex-wife, Sarah Trigger.  Sources tell TMZ that the threat was significant and the taping continued, but without an audience.  That same “no-audience” arrangement was planned for today’s taping of the show.  Trigger has since been questioned by the FBI over the threats.

Then on Wednesday, Brooke Mueller was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Sherman Oaks Hospital in California.  She was suffering from an infected wisdom tooth and had to have emergency surgery to remove it.  The infection had spread to her lungs and today she’s battling pneumonia.

Sheen rushed to the hospital to be by his wife’s side, despite the restraining order.  The judge signed a new order that allowed him to be in contact with her while she is in the hospital.  They were due to visit the judge again today.  Mueller’s rep said she is feeling much better than when she was admitted to the hospital.
